Was Adam Smith a socialist?

He died before socialism was even thought of.

>>722464
Elaborate

>>722464
disagree, he died at the start of the French Revolution, plenty of socialists during that time period, like Babeuf, and you already had Rousseau who can be considered a socialist. You didn't have marxism yet obviously but socialism as an ideology already existed.

>>722466
What's the difference beetween Marxism and Socialism?

socialism is as concrete of an adjective as leftism lol

>>722467
Basically that not all socialists are Marxists.

>>722475
It's not the difference

>>722467
>>722478
op didnt ask if he was a marxist

>>722467
Socialism is a societal system and Marxism is a school of thought when it comes to making sense of human societies.

He would be for communism if he was resurrected and saw the absolute state of capitalism today.

>>722467
Marxism is descended from socialist school of thoughts, notably Rousseau's, but derived on it on the means and end of socialism, for those that marxists call "Utopian socialists" (non marxist socialists) socialism is the end goal, the ideal utopian society, this socialism can be religious as well. in Those cases the definition of socialism is vaguer, generally tending toward an egalitarian society. There is not necessarly an idea of
Marxism clearly defines socialism as a society where the means of productions are owned by the working class, as a result of class warfare and historical materialism, and as a step toward Communism.

>There is not necessarly an idea of

Class warfare and historical materialism, it can often be more idealist

Lot of the stuff he talked about just seemed like basic succ-dem shit. I mean he never criticized the Dutch East India company which could be seen as the beginning of international capitalism. But I guess it depends on what people consider the beginning of capitalism in the first place.

"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest."

Will still be true under socialism. Gotta stack those labor vouchers.

>>722463
He was capital-socialist

>>722532
It's true under any system, socialism doesn't deny it
