For every reason you could give for that, Mastodon and other activtypub stuff is more effective. The only reason that was the case was because entry required invite code, so fash were excluded by having no friends with said codes, and couldn't initiate debates on strangers other than the other fash on twitter, which short circuted them.

Twitter was riding off sheer scale and accessibility. Bsky rides off the social clout of its developers. Federation will outlive them both

Bluesky is just a less dogshit clone of Twitter.
Xitter is arguably the worst (noteworthy) website on the internet so it's really not hard to be better. No paid blue checks clogging up the replies with their garbage, no billionaire manchild owner rigging the algorithm, and substantially fewer Nazis.
It's pretty libbed-up but that's to be expected.

That's the premise tho. Like the only thing separating it conceptually from being a twitter clone was AT protocol. The promise of eventually having other instances was the selling point, yet as you say: people came to it precisely for the convenience that came from having failed to roll out AT proto day 1.

Now that AT protocol is real there's no difference other than that most people don't bother to host or seek out a separate instance because the late roll out has made people accept that bluesky is just a twitter clone. Give it a few years and AT protocol will be the same deal as activitypub, just with technical tradeoffs. Bluesky being a pitch perfect historical repetition of mastodon.social: the dogshit "main" instance all the cool people defederate or limit due to it's inability to moderate at it's current scale.

I only made an account because some Japanese artists I followed migrated there. I never really use it.
Whatever criticisms, I fully support its existence because I fucking hate Elon and the 4chanification of the internet. A site with a bunch of libs and some leftists is better than one with a bunch of nazis and some libs. I only made a twitter account a year before elon bought it was I've never felt that much attachment to them. I think a lot of right wingers became addicted to twitter so they deluded themselves into thinking it's the most important site and battleground on earth

Apparently blue sky's userbase was much more leftist and younger until rachel maddow made some segments on it and attracted a bunch of boomer libs

I had a twitter that I made back when I was 13-ish and used daily and I deactivated that shit last month. Mastodon completely replaced it for me.
