girl dressed as clowns seems like low-key a reaction to clean makeup looks, seems like a way to present yourself with heavy makeup without feeling out of step with what's fashionable, like somewhere in between cosplay and ootd stuff

My first impulse is to say Clowns are a simulacra. They are simulating Anime and Tiktok aesthetics within post post post ironic humor.

Maybe not though, I knew a girl 15 years ago I really wanted to sleep with who always painted her face white and dyed her hair green like a clown. Got some head before she moved away to NY.

So then it is possible that sexy clown is separate and apart from the poison of the modern digital world. But I think the cartoonish disassociation is the key. I think it's the same horny as really pleasing anime cosplay. We know the wig is fake. We know they are all painted up for the photoshoot or convention. We know it's all done as signifier.
