not everyone here has a strap and the mfers with arsenals of random assault rifles are middle class paranoiacs that bust fat nuts to home intruder fantasies, this is because the real purpose of the 2nd amendment was to clear up redtape around arming your local governments slave patrol and not some noble ideal of arming the people against government tyranny. Its still working as intended more or less. now tbf gun control in the US rn would basically just be a sequel to the war on drugs but the bricks of cocaine can shoot people and have the same results with more deaths(prison-industrial complex gets more profits and police get more firepower and less oversight).

The proliferation of guns is because of capitalism. Gun manufacturers + military industrial complex. The majority of guns in the US are owned by a small minority of the population, who are primarily petty bourg. Gun ownership as it exists in the US quite clearly does not benefit the proletariat.
As far as the second amendment goes, the founders focused exclusively on the value of militias acting as protection for each state. It was a reaction to Shays's Rebellion - the view was that the Articles of Confederacy hobbled the government's ability to put down rebellions, thus the Constitution needed to guarantee the power of states to form well-trained militas to protect themselves. The idea that the second amendment is focused on the individual right to own any and all forms of firearms is from the late 20th century.

Recent events have also conclusively proven that American gun owners have no interest in resisting government tyranny. Quite the opposite, they want to supplement it.
