I was born and raised in western Pennsylvania in what many would consider “Appalachia.” Thought technically in the north and not usually what you would consider to be Appalachia it is still a part of the mountain range and only a short drive to West Virginia. I grew up in a middle class neighborhood not suffering at all which was much better than those in Appalachia proper. Those living outside the green zone in the map above are stuck in their own abusive relationship with conservatism, the Republican Party has ravaged this region for decades and if you go to West Virginia there isn’t a hospital for miles. In North Carolina they have not been able to rebuild Asheville for a year meanwhile China has just built the world’s largest bridge. It’s such a shame to see the suffering of the people of Appalachia, they call them Rednecks but many don’t know the organ of that term. Every time I go to the country side and see a Confederate flag, a Gadsden Flag, or a Trump sign I am filled with a sense of sadness knowing that the grandfather of the Hog who hung up those flags and signs very well could have almost died fighting cops so he could have worker’s rights.

I dont know why Appalachia is so right wing tbh do you guys have like ethnic tensions against black ppl up there

ruralfags have literally always been scum, and theres no use trying to figure out why. trotsky speaks of this

if you're uneducated you're more likely to be right-wing, simple-as

Yeah it's amazing how some of you Americans live. The Chinese see you as like an impoverished African nation lmao

I live in a suburban community and I am not rural and I speak with a standard American accent but I am very familiar with the rural regions. And yeah I’m pretty sure that since liberals can’t offer a racial scapegoat to the lumpens they just become conservative. The region used to be filled with coal mines and steel mills and they think that Trump removing environmental regulations will bring that industry back when all that does is enable AI data centers to pollute their towns and McMansions to be built over their forests. The region is beautiful, if you ever seen the New River Gorge Bridge on a fall morning it’s amazing but it’s just so sad that it has become the Magaslum.

you can't generalize your experience in a settler colonial state to the entire world. the revolutions in russia, china, cuba, vietnam, etc. were all primarily rural movements. amerifags are simply settlers, more comparable to an israeli than anything else. our country was founded on racism and colonialism and this heritage influences our culture to this day. do not discount the effect of billions of dollars of spending on propaganda, if nothing else.

Yeah it’s really sad how things are here. Appalachia is practically a developing country, the people here have no class consciousness which is so sad because their grandparents probably did.

I've always wondered if something abt small town america encourages feelings of class collaboration since the people actually know the local gentry on a more personal basis, religious institutions still control significant social safety nets and the weird resentment for le big city life creating a shared scapegoat.

I can kind of understand the resentment of the big cities since most rural lolberts I've met are acutely aware that if the country was an actual democracy the cities would absolutely votemog them into irrelevance which in turn leads many "anti-government" types to shill the whole "republic not a democracy" line and old ass james madison tier ideals about the need for aristocratic institutions like senate and supreme court and electoral college literally making there votes literally count more to hold back le ebil mob.

Peasants are bigoted everywhere you go man. Why the hell do you think antisemitism was rampant in Soviet Russia? Cuz that was the peasant prejudice, and they brought it to the worker's state. Same with peasants in China and Vietnam, you had to do an actual cultural revolution to remove the peasant mindset. A lot of Americans love to treat basic ass thing as a uniquely American evil caused by the original sin (settler colonialism)

Same for urbanites, don't get cocky.
