Of course someone like Nietzsche would say that you should do it because virtue is its own right but most of the people who affirm this philosophy are chuds seeking an excuse to harm people, like Raskolnikov in Crime and Punishment, or some terrorist justifying bombing civilians, which is a completely different dimension from taking harm to yourself and your loved ones.
