I cooked a curry with a rotten onion and it tasted weird. Of course I didn't use the rotten part but still it smelled weird I just didn't have another onion to cook with. I don't know if this is because I am recovering from a cold tho. Gone off onions are the worst and I always get them. With potatoes you can let them grow and its fine, you even get to eat the tasty green sprouts, but onions not.

dw its fine to eat, you can just put your onion in a pot (get the roots wet before planting) and itll root and the greens are harvestable after like 10 days, after around 3 regrows of the greens the onion is mostly gone though, before that you can just use both the onion and the greens growing out of it
