We all know that the Black Book of Communism is bullshit and that it would count Nazi deaths and babies that could have been born as victims of communism. But what is the actual number? Because I know that they were responsible for some deaths just like every head of state.

From wikipedi on Stalin:
>This contained official records of 799,455 executions (1921–1953),[8][9][10][11][12] around 1.5 to 1.7 million deaths in the Gulag,[13][14][15] some 390,000[16] deaths during the dekulakization forced resettlement, and up to 400,000 deaths of persons deported during the 1940s,[17] with a total of about 3.3 million officially recorded victims in these categories
Seems right.

On Mao
>The Cultural Revolution was characterized by violence and chaos across Chinese society. Estimates of the death toll vary widely, typically ranging from 1 to 2 million
Great leap forward low estimates (which I would consider the most reliable based on the one paper I read) are 15 millions.
And probably you could find one more million putting together all the "minor" events he is directly responsible for.

Why is this on /siberia/

>On Stalin
Very sketchy. For starters, not all government decisons were made or agreed upon by Stalin, sometimes he had to follow the party's directive even if he was in the minority. The death count of the gulags also makes me suspicious: if a person dies in prison, is that the fault of the president/prime minister? Sometimes people get sick and die, the country was poor, medicine at the time was lacking, and criminals simply were not a priority when sharing limites resources (be it food when scarce, or even medical personel). What about the deaths of persons deported? What's going on? Weird that it doesn't mention any of the war efforts either.

>On Mao

Even more dubious. Did those people magically have a heart attack? Were they executed? What really happened. Executing ~15 million people is not reasonable and would without a doubt profoundly impact a country's demographic data.

Btw if you want a somewhat real answer, OP:
<stalin
>a substantial amount of people: soviet soldiers, their allies, and enemies (the axis), died in war efforts. It's fair to attribute those deaths to stalin, churchill, roosevelt, hitler, ᴉuᴉlossnW and co. War happens and it sucks
>people died during the dekulakization. You can attribute this to stalin and co. Opposition claims that the dekulakization was necessary but that it could've been done in a less violent manner.
>people died during the purges. The party was paranoid that it would be sabotaged by spies and counterrevolutionaries, and that led to the executions of actual spies and saboteurs, but also of innocents. The NKVD was also compromised (see: Yezhov) so I wouldn't put all the blame on stalin and the party but they surely were at least partially responsible, as they failed as overseers of the process
>it's disputed if stalin killed trotsky. His reaction to trotsky's murder suggests that it might've happened under stalin's orders, and he had political incentive to not deny attribution to the deed even if it had nothing to do with him whatsoever, so we can't know for sure. It's up in the air.
<mao
>had people die due to retarded pseudoscientific public policies regarding e.g. pest control.
>I'm not too knowledgeable on socialist china so I'll refrain from commenting further but the burden of proof is on the accuser
