That is a key factor which is often overlooked.
They lack a male model completely, be it a positive or a negative one. Therefore they try to invent a masculinity based on movies, videogames, Internet, etc. and it ends up as the caricature it is. The result is often quite funny because often what they understand as their "based masculinity" is just themselves emulating their only role models of authority, meaning mother and grandmother, and the result is a silly histrionic, over-emotional and overreacting boy. Pretty much the opposite of the traditional masculinity they are after.

What's almost infinitely more important about these people is their class position, that is, petty bourgeois and proles influenced by petty bourgeois. What these people want at their best is divorced from reality entirely, namely a plot of land they they work with the family like it's 1100 and a few gold bars to throw around as clown world collapses. Even the relatively good people out of their rank like Rossman are simply on the losing side of reality. Small production like family farms, small repair shops etc. just suck by the nature of things, they will always be crushed in the free market because it cannot be as productive and efficient as a larger enterprise. There is no way out for their way of life and so they turn to copes.
