It's probably one of the easiest types of exercise. Also it might be the only exercise they do and they probably only do it every once in awhile.

I don't know. Sometimes I've done like 30000+ steps or done about 15 or 16 miles worth of steps. But that's because I run in place for exercise. I'm normal weight for someone my height.

I didn't mean that you are, but I hike a lot and I only ever meet unfit people in really popular spots that also have tons of children, old people, etc. so just go hike somewhere harder or emptier
