Barney did change though. Remember when Homer first gave him beer? He was a studious individual on his way to an ivy league school. He just changed for the worse. He could do better as his production of a film shows. In fact he was shown to be quite talented throughout the shows run but he just had a bad relationship with alcohol. Although he did get clean later on but I don't know how long that stuck since his previous attempts didn't last long. Anyways I put too much into this.

I understand how you arrived at this conclusion. It's because you are watching Pukeahontas through a lense of contempt for alcoholics. I'm guessing someone closely related to you is/was an alcoholic. I get it, nothing breeds contempt of alcoholics like having one in your family, alcoholism turns people into a certain type of person, yeah it's hard to describe but you know what I'm talking about.

But I'm sorry, anon, alcoholism has nothing to do with laziness or lack of trying or not wanting it enough or just choosing to be a happy well-adjusted individual. It's a very individualist way of approaching a problem that has an unending amount of contributing factors beyond just choosing to be happy.

Alcoholics are not lazy. They are in a battle with addiction and they are losing.
