Since we are halfway through the 2020s I was wondering what you think some of the most consequential moments of the decade are?
Here is my choices:
>January 6th
It wasn’t consequential in the way that the people who did it got in trouble but it was in the way that it solidified that as long as you are good for the American upper class then you can do whatever you want.
>Elon Twitter Takeover
Unbanning every Neo-Nazi on the most used social media platform accelerated the rise of gamer-gate politics into the mainstream
>October 7
This was used as an excuse for Israel to commit genocide and in the west REAL antisemitism exploded in the months following in the west.
>Elon Nazi-Salute
Solidified the normalization of Nazism in the mainstream media
>Putin-Trump meetup
Solidified the decline of the American Empire

Unfortunately there are no good ones here except maybe the Putin one, hopefully the election of Mamdani will Make this list in the next 5 years.

Not counting COVID either February 24, 2022 or October 7, 2023 easily

Bro it is actually insane that you think all that spectacle shit matches up with Ocŧ 7

OP should have just said Trump's inauguration instead of Elon's salute and included the salute as part of it. Because Trump did immediately move to start breaking shit right after it

i was gonna say trump winning his first election because that was the culmination of decades of simmering aimless labor aristocrat and petite bourgeois discontent in the USA and it was the point when USA fascism start to gradually operate openly and shamelessly which in my opinion gave permission for other fascists around the world to do the same; but that was in 2016. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh besides that? in the 2020s? probably the two most important events have been russia reigniting their with ukraine in 2022 and october 7. those have been the most consequential globally i think. i coiuld be wrong though what the fuck do i know

Your probably right, I was mostly trying to go for iconic/infamous photographs

This was so surreal witnessing it live, the day the multipolar world was born

I think October 7 gets the slight edge because while the war on Ukraine was a Rubicon moment for Europe and to a lesser extent the US the Gaza war/genocide has not only reshaped the balance of power in the ME (fucking crazy as someone who followed the Syrian war from 2013-2020 to think that Nasrallah and Assad lost that badly) but also lead to a deeper crisis across the West regarding Israel, the war, and the broader 'rules based order' or international law
