I wish we'd go back to the weekly posturing of "the people poisoning the planet have names and addresses". It was annoying but at least largely correct. Better than the shit currently being spewed where people genuinely believe that if you type even one prompt into ChatGPT you kill 100000 polar bears.
I swear it used to be actually understood around here that "carbon footprint" rhetoric is bullshit that only exists to place the blame vaguely on "humanity" rather than the haute bourgeois who can put out orders of magnitude more in a day than the average person in a lifetime. Like is Shell sponsoring these people or something because this is wild how much we went backwards on that. AI slop isn't some ultimate super polluter where one click burns an entire rainforest. Most of us on here have nowhere near the wealth for changing our "lifestyle" to make a difference anyway.
its another episode of getting mad at people i made up in my head
>>740650>there are even several whole ass articles about how AI consumes water or whatever every week<le people inside ur head dood!!you are retarded 👍
>>740655but what if others are the reason for me to stay?
It's not that hard to not use ChatGPT. At least the people complaining about its environmental harms do not usually use it. But those talking about names and addresses, how many of them have taken things into their hands?
I have been perplexed about the latter. Before the green scare there were at least widespread arson attacks. Maybe they were misguided but people were pissed and were willing to risk it all. But these days? You had Standing Rock and ZAD and Extinction Rebellion and Greta Thunberg, and no offence to Greta but these are laughable. Environmentalists used to fire RPGs at power plants (yes it was retarded but still) now they pour soup on paintings? Even though the situation is much more hopeless? Aren't people supposed to get desperate as things get worse? I don't really see how could things get any worse. We are already living at the end of times but it seems that people would rather cling to the hope that a global nuclear war or some evil malicious superintelligent AI will quickly wipe us out before we really get to suffer the consequences of the ongoing climate catastrophe?
Like, I'm sorry OP that you got shamed for using AI but let's be real.
>>740765You are right, I am sorry I forgot that it's either all or nothing.
>>740766>i cant believe people waste water doing x unlike i who wastes water doing ylmfao ok buddy
>I am sorry I forgot that it's either all or nothing.yeah actually, ops second paragraph makes it quite clear 👍
>>740649>where people genuinely believe that if you type even one prompt into ChatGPT you kill 100000 polar bears. To me this form of luddite liberalism seems like a psyop to target USA AI programs so im conflicted about it.
>>740649i wonder how these people would react when they find out their slime tiktoks and disney+ subscription are just as damaging
