Christmas fucked up my pc replacement order, but when it arrives i'm going to set up an illumos system which boots to Xorg under alpine linux, which starts an fvwm client under the illumos host, which can launch terminals under either illumos or linux. Might also run X under illumos, if opengl and vulkan work in lx zones (unlikely).

Illumos has a better integrated and more performant zfs implementation, doesn't have the same dangerous attitudes towards things like memory overcommitment and is generally a more stable piece of software, so it's the perfect candidate for cleaning up when linux craps itself. I'm also testing this really cool ports system similar to /pkg but with program isolation, that i might need the zone functionality for.
