I haven’t read the book because my high school only assigned Animal Farm, but I thought the point was that EastAsia, Eurasia don’t exist and “Airstrip 1” was the only actual territory of Oceania because the rest of the world was destroyed by a previous nuclear war.

That was the general sentiment of the elites of that time and it is a blatant and malicious lie. They claimed that these dirty proles want to destroy their culture meanwhile in reality proles of that time always organized reading clubs, literary saloons and classical music concerts and generally all in for culture and the education of children.
