I would post this in the sex and relationships general thread but I think it's too general for it; is there a trend of "golden children" in the online spaces you inhabit?
Mostly in TF2 and related communities I've found that there's a few "golden children" of each space. Like, these people are around 18 years old, can do utterly no wrong, criticism of them - be it earnest and well-meaning suggestions, to mean-spirited trash talk - is not tolerated at fucking all towards them? And like these aren't the funniest, most well-meaning, intelligent, and important members of the community. They aren't bearing any particularly large weight for the space, they aren't hosting servers, making important technical contributions, etc. etc. etc. They aren't funny, they aren't particularly kind, they're milquetoast and fit in well. Does this happen to you? Do you see this happening? Were you ever a golden child of these spaces? Am I just tweaking?
And furthermore, I was probably the opposite of this golden child. I was a, as wikipedia puts it, whipping boy. I was considered basically always evil for everything I done, all my conflicts were shunworthy, all my nice contributions ignored. So like, what the fuck?
no
>>745630Yes, it's so common that it's strange. I assume it's because they're well connected. The worst people were the ones who engaged in group chats.
>>745636Also, can you recommend me communities related to TF2? I never got into it's communities despite having a lot of playtime.
>>745636I hate to say it but I'm 90% convinced that due to the intersection of age and the sexual nature of these communities, that these members are almost certainly victims/taking-advantage of sexual abuse wherein they hold their influence as "i can ruin ur life for asking 2 see my butthole lol" to do shit like that.
this was also visible in my local bdsm community
>>745639how toxic are bdsm communities?
>>745630Inner circles are just like that, the ages of the protected don't matter. If you're friends with the right people, you can do no wrong.
>>745651so, why shouldnt you kill yourself if youre not apart of them?
>>745654You could create your own inner circle one day
>>745655too much of a loser :)
t. friendless from 0 to 21
>>745649I wanted to visit a munchie in my city, but I avoided it because I was a pussy, can you tell me more?
>>745657these are losers with soulless eyes, you didnt miss much.
>>745630>In the context of Team Fortress 2 (TF2) and similar tight-knit gaming communities, a "golden child" refers to a creator, player, or personality who is universally beloved and practically immune to criticism. Here is a translation to this retardation.
>>745660i pulled this definition out of my ass
[t. op, drunk, traumatized, potentially CTE victim]
>>745666oh
should i hide this post then i thought the op was serious
>>745667Im afraid he probably is.
I remember finding it odd to see an absense of this phenomenon when I first joined fedi. Like once you see it's absense in one space you notice it in another.
>>745720Does it not happen there?
>>745723Not that I've noticed. I hear stories about it but it's always from instances that block everyone else so that barely counts.
