really depends what you define it as, which is mostly generational.
- Millenials and older exclusively held rich people as celebrities because that's exclusively how media worked until the internet came about.
- Zoomers seem to consider anyone that's done something most people that they know of know about as a celebrity. People that start memes are celebrities, for example. Being a celebrity has the same tone as having a world record to them. You could argue that this would be "micro-celebrities" but it seems like zoomers spread their attention between a bunch of micro-celebrities and only occasionally acknowledge the big shots. I'd consider micro-celebrity the default type of celebrity for them for that reason.
- Gen alpha seems to have a mixture of both but will likely go for the newer approach once they fully get tired of and abandon Mr. Beast and such.
