Do you guys think there could be AI voice audiobooks for more natural sounding voices?
I meant as something uploaded to libravox or something for free, typically of some public domain work, not for sale by a company. It could potentially increase the number of freely available audiobooks with good-enough voice work.
I do wonder if AI voices could be generated on personal computers rather than data centers. Stable diffusion, for instance, can be run on a personal computer.
Don't we have text-to-speech apps?
elevenlabs already pushes out shit that's superior in quality than your average librivox lib with vocal fry talking into a shitty mic back in '07 and lackadaisically reading half a chapter, but it's not quite as good as your audible type industry standard. Also it costs a lot of money and takes a lot of time to pump out a whole audiobook with elevenlabs. it's better used for youtube shorts or memes. until the day comes when it's fast and practical, stick to torrenting audiobooks from audiobookbay
>>758729Classic text-to-speech doesn't sound very naturalistic.
>>758729TTS is OK. I've used it to get through required reading when my eyes hurt. but it's not gripping like a real voice is. you find yourself repeating it a few times to make it stick.
One of the main advantages of an audiobook is a reader who properly understands the text and is able to reduce textual ambiguity through their tone and pacing. TTS and AI really struggle with this and can even make things less clear. This is unlikely to be something that improves much in the near term.
>>758422I already use AI reading PDF's for me.
The quality is horrible.https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/ >>760326It's free (or at least it should be) and there is no other free version of the audiobook.

>>760335then your not even listening and its not even worth listening to. you have no reason to keep listening to whatever shitty worthless book you pretend is worth your time if you treat it as background noise. you have no respect for art. kiss me now. im feeling romanticial
