this is improved by the JA 1.3 mod which actually afaik models the position of the muzzle as the gun recoils and incorporates seperate vertical/horizontal recoil values to simulate the spread patterns of particular guns, with stuff like weight, character fatigue, skill, strength etc being factored in to determine how your merc can control the recoil and keep his gun on target.
