This comment section really betrays how alien Christianity is to the secular West. The Cross is important in Christianity because how God reveal Xerself is THE message of Christianity. That God became the lowest of man, was tortured and surrendered himself to be executed is a direct rebuttal against the Evropean Will to Power. This is, in fact, a common theme across all Axial Age religions: that divinity descended to grasp us, and that holiness is found in service of others and not domination of them.
When Marx criticized Christianity, it's because he viewed it foolish for men to have to externalize their values to an outside source like God, and demand a Mediator for their sins in the person of Jesus, instead of trying to solve their problems collectively as Human Being. Not because he disagreed with those values!
This is the key difference with that and the NuAtheist criticism of religion. Nuatheists criticize religion because they find the values embarassing. They find the emphasis on serving community a cope at best and cuckoldry at worst. They demand power, eschew dialogues with people of opposing side, and valorize hustling
