Question, uhm, who was defending France during its early revolutionary phase when Napoleon was but an artillery student? How did it even manage to get that far into its ascendancy having internal revolts all around the country and also external enemies at its doorstep?
It just baffles me that nobody was, effectively, at the helm during the early period of this.
