What smartphone do you use and why?

Pixel, the store clerk lied when I asked if I could root it. Runs the games I like and has a decent camera tho. Gonna get a pinephone once I can afford it tho.
Anyone with a pinephone know if it can play arknights well?

Pixel what? Don't they usually have unlockable bootloaders? You can even flash AOSP on them.

>>25878
6a, but my parents got it as part of a phone plan that bricks rooted phones. Could be I'm being overly cautious tho.

Moto 5g. Rootable and has the audiojack, and for that price? Can't go wrong.

I use a shitty cheap phone from several years ago that I got for free by trading in an even older phone. The phone drives me up the wall because it doesn't have enough RAM to run modern android apps, but I refuse to replace it because I refuse to pay money for smartphones that require proprietary drivers. I bought a pinephone pro, but I want to put either nix or guix on it and the pinephone compatibility for those distros isn't good

I figure there are very few secrets you can keep between the device and the carrier/government. Does anyone use a phone primarily as an access point for a more private/secure device? What does that look like in practice?

>>25896
if you use it as a hotspot and run a vpn from the other device then it can't see your traffic. it's still a spying device with cameras and mics and a gps though

datamining thread

>>25879
you should be able to override that

I got a samsung a35. I got g**gle fi and it was like like $99 so I snagged it.

If you really would care about datamining, you wouldn't use the internet.

The best way to ensure your privacy is to encrypt anything you wouldn't want your mother to see, using PGP or a similar algorithm. Against physical threat, such as how this Anon reminds us, >>25898, we are practically paying big tech to spy on us.

Actually the opposite, the best way to ensure privacy is to have something that you wouldn't want your mother to see be the first thing that appears. Since I've set a piece of gay furry porn as a wallpaper, my privacy has improved by 200% cause I'm way more careful when taking out my phone in public.

We're not as paranoid as Ted, even though Ted had valid reasons to be paranoid.
