Oh I've seen that around, not quite what I'm going for here. Like if I swap out the thumbnail for one that doesn't have the face, I'll just end up watching videos with faces in them on accident.
Like I wanna use the face in the thumbnail as a que that the video is just them filming their face talking, and zapping it automatically rather than having to manually scroll past it.

OpeCV ships with a face detection Haar cascade thing so the computational side isn't too difficult. Not sure about the browser plugin side of the equation

That seems like a really good idea anon. It also seems like it would be trivial to implement, just run the thumbnail images through a face detection algo as the page loads or whatever. Ask a couple of LLMs how to implement it and merge their answers to get best results.

It's not so much the faces as much as the context of their presence. I don't like that it's normal to show one's face on youtube to the point where it seems like the algorithm incentivizes it, and it's trendy to do a "face reveal" if you don't already show it.
In elementary school they has whole days dedicated to teaching internet safety, several tapes and stories about it. I strongly believe most people should be at most pseudonymous online when practical, so anything that stands to erode that is icky to me.

Showing your face on the internet should've never been normalized.
