Is indie app/web development a viable way to earn money? I'm tired of debugging dogshit legacy codebases. I plan on building dozens of freemium apps hoping that at least one sticks. I have 2.5 years of web and mobile dev experience.

Also, please don't move this to /tech/ jannies, it's an incredibly slow board.

Sorta, you can mutually link your site to your socials and and projects, which is good for SEO–thus visibility, thus hirability. Otherwise, depends what your job is. If you're an artist you can make a self-hosted gallery, and given you're a programmer then yeah you're a type of artist.

Non-4chan imageboards use something called an >>>/overboard/, which merges all of them and thus makes one board being slow a non-issue, since everyone uses the /overboard/.

>since everyone uses the /overboard/.
Do mods have any data on how many people actually browse through overboard vs individual boards?

Make WeChat 2
Lets brainstorm a bit
what makes WeChat a super app?
The amount of functions.
It offers a wide range of services within a single platform, going beyond just messaging. This includes features like digital payments, e-commerce, travel booking, and even accessing public services, all without needing to switch to other applications

What will make WeChat 2 an Ultra App?
Expand the functions:
Digital payments? Make a drug market.
E-commerce? Add a drug market.
Travel booking? Add rendezvous locations for obtaining drugs.
Accessing public services? Add a drug market.
Bonus feature: Ability to create group Narco Cartel chats.

>>29942
Bonus feature: Add a drug social network for drug sharing and connecting between drug users.
Like the "shake" feature of the original WeChat, except you can connect with another drug user.

Make the app completely mask the device, like a built in VPN, add a special bank account to crypto converter and route it in a magic way so it can't trace back to the bank account despite it being input into the app. Or make it run entirely on gift card codes, like google gift cards, steam gift cards, world of tanks gift cards so anyone can just buy a gift card from a store, put in the code and get digital money they can use for buying drugs anonymously without having to put in their bank account and just figure out a way to cash in on the giftcard codes.

>>29944
DO THIS, YOU'RE GONNA BE A GAZILLIONAIRE! CONVERT GIFTCARDS INTO CRYPTO AND GIVE A PLATFORM FOR DRUGS, ITS GONNA BE ANONYMOUS AS FUCK, JUST MAKE THE APP SUPER SECURE AND MASK THE CLIENT

>>29941
NAJ but probably, I know when I run something on http-server it shows when a page is accessed. Could probably chart that.
Seems like it'd be inconvenient to individually browse each board.

NEW TREND OF 2027 - BUYING COCAINE WITH GIFT CARDS
ALL THE MEDIA ARE IN SHOCK
THE APP IS POPULAR AS FUCK, ALL THE DOWNLOADS AND THEY CAN'T FIND YOU THEY CAN'T SHUT IT DOWN, YOU DON'T ADVERTISE IT AS A DRUG MARKET, BUT YOU DON'T DO ENOUGH TO MONITOR IT EITHER

>>29947
SO ITS LIKE A NORMAL MESSAGING APP THAT ALSO ALLOWS TO TURN GIFTCARDS INTO IN-APP CRYPTO SHIT MONEY AND LIKE TOTALLY ENCRYPTED CHATS WHERE ALL THE DEALERS AND THE USERS CONNECT AND ALL THE USERS GOTTA DO IS BUY GIFT CARDS AND PUT THEM INTO THE APP AND GET MONEY, YOU GET A CUT OF THE MONEY, THE DEALERS GET THE REST.

>>29948
Make it like super encrypted and be able to run on old hardware so anyone can buy a used phone or an old cheap phone, connect it to the internet, download the app, put in the giftcard code, find a dealer, buy the goods, get them dead dropped or something like that, leave reviews, destroy the phone, consoom the NARCOTICS
dealers get paid with crypto shit thats from the giftcards converted which they can then exchange to other crypto and then into cash money Ig

fuck that we should get a better name for this
GiveChat (GC)
Cause you can give cash and chat

>>29950
That icon is a freebie uygha
make this app NOW

Buhhh… uhmm… drugs anon… drugs are illegal.

Mobile apps, maybe, but only if you tap into something that people both really need and somehow hasn't been invented yet, or your returns will be meager.
Web apps, you need to pay for infrastructure so not really.

>>29953
Many BaaS have a pretty generous free tier. It's not the infra costs I'm concerned about, it's the time and effort it takes to build an app after 10 hours of debugging legacy spaghetti code that really makes me apprehensive. I really feel stuck.

do a shitty mobile game, monetize the shit out of it and shill it to third worlders

This job will be completely replaced by AI in one year's time.

File: 1748373040132.png (34.71 KB, 554x554, ClipboardImage.png)

>>29956
My genuine reply to this is that people only focus on the implementation stage of the software development lifecycle when all the other stages are actually the ones that take up most of the time and effort. Implementation for 99% of applications was already pretty easy even before the advent of AI. It's another thing that people still managed to fuck it up somehow.

>>29956
It isn't even a job to begin with. That's like calling writing or eating a job. Indie webdev is just a basic life skill.

>>29954
Jobs aren't necessarily fun. If you don't like it go network into a different one. I deal with legacy code all day but the pay is good, the code base is bad but not horrible, and I'm treated well. Management understands some things are very hard to do and take time without breaking existing functionality.
