I assume it was do to cost cutting and shitty management, under socialism this will not happen
Also, what do you preffer, decentralize random websites/providers going down or one sudden accident of the big provider?

Web infrastructure makes sense to decentralize, but other things do not.

Socialism isn't when everything is centralized, it's when things that would be more efficient centralized are, i.e. trains and trams instead of trucks and semi-trucks, planning instead of markets, etc… What those things are depend on the thing in question.
