https://omarchy.org/patrons/give me your take on omarchy. whats the deal? why are corpos funding it? why are the same people who finance grapheneos are also funding a fascist linux distro? what is this?
>>34525and why is alibaba funding it? jack ma is a communist.
https://stopomarchy.org/Reads like detournment in reverse.
A co-opting by a segment of the rich as a sign of their future.
A guess: it's super-profits over (skilled) labor.
Still wonder where they plan to put them?
Just pulling from what's in the milieu currently:
Could it be they make room at the bottom.
Blame a necessity of competition.
Hoist it on the young hoping they know no better.
>>34527"Recuperation" is term you are thinking of.
>>34528lol. I write sort of small. Let me try again.
>>34527>A co-opting by a segment of the rich as a sign of their future.<A co-opting of commons and turning them into a symbol (or more) of what they want.>A guess: it's super-profits over (skilled) labor.<The motive of capitalist automation. AI being a prime example.>Still wonder where they plan to put them?<Wonder what they plan to do with the leftover skilled labor - they will need new work.>Could it be they make room at the bottom.<Just deport a couple million people leftovers into the new/old jobs.>Blame a necessity of competition.<Make it a political necessity in order to remain competitive in markets.>Hoist it on the young hoping they know no better.<Leave most people in their current jobs, no mass firings - as seen in software.>>34529Cheers.
>>34527>>34530Actually on the question, guess all I meant was it's a symbol of this sort of future.
The one you're already familiar with.
What's the point of Omarchy in the first place?
It's another Arch-based distro, okay, but what's the use-case? People who need a solid battle-tested Linux environment either use Debian or Fedora based distros, and there is CachyOS if you want a more user-friendly Arch distro for gaming.
If you take, on the opposite side of the political spectrum, two projects like Rust (woke) and Urbit (chud), they have a purpose beyond the political baggage they carry, it's not just "I'm a Haskell-inspired programming language but woke/chud UwU pls adopt me".
I don't see the point of Omarchy. Distro-hopping is fun at first, but then things eventually break over time and in the end, most of us just want a solid computing environment to do our own shit with, like messing with GCC and Emacs or what have you. I'm not aware of any technical merit this project has over the existing infrastructure, unlike for example, Nix or Guix (which I don't use, but find interesting from afar).
For people who bitched a lot about how woke PR people pushed code of conducts onto open-source projects last decade, they seem to be as useless as them, just on the opposite side of the spectrum.
>>34526>In a speech to Alibaba employees, Ma defended the industry's '996' work schedule, which refers to the 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. workday, six days a week.>"I personally think that being able to work 996 is a huge blessing," he said in remarks posted on the company's WeChat account.>"Many companies and many people don't have the opportunity to work 996," Ma said. "If you don't work 996 when you are young, when can you ever work 996?"Here is your communism, bro. Jack Ma moved to Japan after this, because the CPC weren't taking his remarks on breaking labor laws too kindly.
>>34578Got the impression it was ricing "lets build it with LLM".
The technology - taken from elsewhere - isn't evil.
Biggest two risks, beyond the sign, of just this are:
- Users stop thinking. (guaranteed)
- Users are sold (out). (quite likely)
We can peal back the spectacle to look at the material.
Taking things just as they are is more direct, if subtler.
Everyone being able to make their own software is good.
Am probably going to rededicate the day to software methods.
>>34579Pretty funny considering China has capital controls.
>>34579then why is a chinese corporation funding a fascist distro?
Gentoo can do it better
