Laptops are cheap to run as a server, so you could make it into a local mail server (SMTP relay + imap access), a file/backup server (depending on your storage options), a DNS cache, a tor relay, a vidya server or an instance of a niche OS like Solaris, Plan9, Minix or QNX; if any of those interest you. Otherwise you probably won't get anything out of it, unless it has some exotic connectors you need to use or you don't already have another laptop that's more convenient.

The point would either be to migrate everything onto the laptop, since it should end up being more energy efficient, or run some daemons on the laptop for security or performance reasons.

If you don't want another server, maybe you would enjoy setting up a media center somewhere in your house. You could have it do anything from just playing videos on your TV to being a full STB substitute.
