Because most Americans don't train with the guns they own. Somewhere along the way, gun ownership became taboo something only magatards and Tim mcveigh types do instead of every household having firearms and knowing how to use them (usually hunting guns or milsurp but still). It's also the death of high trust society in America. The only people who used to carry were "gangster" types. But now your average Joe is always under threat of having their pockets ran by some drug addled retard with an infected needle over what little they already have thanks to the capitalist powers that be.

I have owned some airsoft tho. and it's pretty easy to not shoot yourself. Same safety features. No need to shoot yourself.
