The whole ordeal was just 3rd republic politicians shifting the blame away from themselves. Even the fact that it was Petain that signed the armistice - Reynaud resigned simply because he didn't want to sign it, not because he disagreed with signing it. Then Reynaud continued bumbling around in ministerial politics after the war, somehow.
The French political class stripped the military of means to prepare to the war decently and then complained they've ended up relying on relatively stiff plans with low margin of error that fell apart. Oh man Gamelin, Petain, Weygand we needed tanks and radios. No we would never ever raise the limits of professional soldiers to actually man the tanks and the radios. No we won't beat the airplane industry into mass production instead if artisanal labour until a year before the war. No you have to train the drafted men and make them do their military work within a year, I'm not going to hear any talk about 2 years military service(Germany did 3 from 1933 onwards). No we won't allocate funds for reservist training.
And then after all that they were like "you're all bunch of morons why didn't you defeat a country with twice the France's population".
The story of post-WW2 in France is the perfect example of why there is no justice in the world. The politicians got off scott free, the military men if not punished, were ridiculed forever despite doing the best with what the politicians allowed them to have.
