I live in a country without access to firearms or crossbows, so I have taken up archery. Pictured is my 30lb composite bow. I shoot up to 70lb. Is archery just a leisure sport or can it be useful?

Of course it can be useful. Practise with a bow will strengthen your arm, help develop an intuiative understanding of ballistics, teach you discipline in maintaining your weapon, allow you a whole new sphere of social relations with others of the same sport, allow you to appreciate the differences weather can make on the smallest adjustments etc.

If you want to develop a warrior spirit, do not think of it merely as leisure, neither as just useful or not useful. Practice in earnest and the use shall make itself clear, the leisure will come of its own and you will discover what is not useful and when. Archery is not the way but is one of many skillful means to find yourself upon it.
>Do not stray from the true Way. Keep the mind straight. Practise the Way broadly, see the great picture widely — make the Void your Way, and see the Way as the Void.

Laozi impressed

sure, it's fun and you can compete in competitions and if you get good enough at it you can effectively hunt small game like rabbits and squirrels and cook them and eat them. for anything beyond that, archery is pretty useless though. you won't instantly incapacitate a larger animal like a deer with an arrow and you're not an indian tracker who can follow blood trails and footprints for miles and miles through unknown wilderness trudging through poison ivy and spiderwebs and swamp leeches while the sun is going down, you'll just end up needlessly forcing some poor creature to carry an arrow in its ass for the rest of its miserable life after you get tired and frustrated and bored and go back home to watch joe rogan and eat hot pockets.

>I live in a country without access to firearms or crossbows
get a hunting loicense. surely your country has wild animals that need culling
>>6443
>you won't instantly incapacitate a larger animal like a deer with an arrow
a broadhead will absolutely rek smaller deer if you hit them right. but a gun is still better in almost every way except sound
>you're not an indian tracker who can follow blood trails and footprints for miles
you can also fuck up shot placement with a gun. you must always be prepared to track the animal down, even if you use a gun. a red deer or a moose can run for kilometers even if you land a shot in the lungs. they can survive surprisingly long even if you hit the heart. never aim for the head, because if you fuck up you can hit their jaw, and they will run far far away and die of thirst or starvation

OP should try tracking game prints in winter as practice to see if he has what it takes for trailing

>Foreigners cant get hunting licences
uh ACKSHULLY
>https://www.jarniascyril.com/expatriation/guide-moving-to-china-expat/hunting-permit-procedures-china-regulations/
>Eligibility Criteria:
>Be at least 18 years old (age may vary locally, but this is the standard in most provinces)
>No prior convictions for serious violations of firearms legislation, poaching, or species protection laws
>Legal residence in China (for foreigners, a long-stay visa is generally required)
>Can foreign hunters legally hunt in China?
>Foreign hunters must follow the same legal framework as local hunters, including acquiring permits and adhering to species regulations. Overarching regulations are designed to ensure compliance with wildlife conservation efforts.

Archery is a great means to self defense. Think about it for minorities especially undocumented ones can get into archery without US cock blocking. In your situation, a bow or crossbow is always a great tool. It's better than nothing. So get training

>self-defense
If the point is to defend yourself, a bow is a terrible idea, you fight people at knife point at best, a telescopic baton would be more useful (and still as illegal in most countries)
If the point is to defend yourself and not get jailed in the process, a bow is completely useless. (Always found it ironic that the best thing that could happen is that your attacker get killed in the process, so he can't sue you properly as you're the only witness)
