the monsters aren't unambiguously evil though. some of them are shown to be annoying to the main characters and others outright criminal but they are not shown, at least from the 3 chapters that i've now read, that they are inherently evil. also the inconveniences that the aliens cause in combination with panels like this really make me more convinced of my feeling that the author is racist. or at the very least subconciously racist if he honestly made excuse for this work.

Are they evil? So far from what I've read the depection of the aliens didn't seem necessarely evil; the author has swung back and forth between "actually bad" and "annoying but innocuous", and to this point one could argue that the author is playing with an unreliable narrator. After all, the main characters aren't exactly good people, and the story doesn't seem to hide it.

also kitami's backstory directly references an irl incident where a foreigner got away scot free

tho my issue with the manga is how retarded it is, they're two randos murdering multiple people in the open and no one caught them yet aside from an alien killing organization that wants to know their "secret", sent a spy among them and despite how lax they are still hasn't figured out noma eats the aliens
it's all too contrived. plus the manga loves to have big cliffhangers resulting in complete nothingburgers by the next chapter

if you actually read the manga there's obvious attempts to make the main characters seem like a caricature of an unhinged real-life far-right racist. it's not just "monster bad".
i find most of the hand-wringing over this kind of discourse unsympathetic tbh. like the frieren thing. yeah, thinking "demons bad = author is a fascist" is retarded, but the story also goes out of the way to comment on humans being excessively trusting of each other (imagine actually believing this btw lol) being a weakness that lets them fall prey to demons. or AoT, people will whine about how you shouldn't bring real genocide into discussions about the story even though the manga traces deliberate parallels between the story's civilizations and real ones.
the moment you make an explicit connection to reality any criticism from that angle is fair game tbh.
also tolkien himself was troubled by the implication that the orcs were ontologically evil and regretted it. funny that his fans aren't willing to put as much thought into it as he did.

Then the actions of the main characters would have more context
