4chinz is dead so I might as well try some new place.
What do you think of the most popular "antiwar but cool mecha fighting is still cool" series? Of course we can also talk about the new show currently airing
>>27539No, you just don't watch seasonal anime
I know it's nothing like the 20th century but
we've got a Wataru reboot and a space opera isekai with a mech pilot this cour, there's usually a couple per season
>>27589>isekai why even bother mentioning this detail or pretending its a genre
it's absolutely useless to bring up when back to the future, silent hill, my little pony, and .hack are all isekais. its fucking meaningless. it's as useful off a descriptor as "it has a dog in it"
>>27630if you can "get philosophical about it" as a path to change the genre tags on something, then it's not a good genre tag.
just omit it. it says nothing about the story, and only acts as a buzzword to make you feel like youre "in the know" with japanese media, attracting other self obsessed weirdos like yourself who think being able to say more japanese words off the cuff makes you cooler
>>27629.hack isn't really an isekai, although I give it partial credit because the MMO the MC's stuck in is at least called "the world" - still it's very much a video game and not like a world with its own reality outside of it. Can't speak to the others as don't watch western stuff or game very much.
Also, the specific mecha I was referring to, Ore wa Seikan Kokka no Akutoku Ryoshu!, is a reincarnated in another world story which follows the MC from his new childhood (after his boss and wife screw him over) and is adapted from a light novel that began on Narou. It's exactly what you think of when you hear the term "isekai" apart from the space opera setting.
>>27657THAT DOESNT TELL ME SHIT WHO CARES
all of the information you just gave me about this piece of media amounted to nothing and gave zero clues about what this show will be like. it may very well just be rick and morty based on your description
>>27741Start with Gundam Wing.
If you watch it and decide you don't like magical super robots, then look more towards the UC Gundam timeline, especially stuff like 08th Team, and other "real robot" series like Votoms, Macross, or Patlabor.
If you watch it and you decide you do like the super robot aspect then there's stuff like G Gundam, Mazinger, or Gurren Lagann.
Or if you want actual magical robot stuff, there's Knight and Magic, Aura Battler Dunbine, or Vision of Escaflowne.

>>27741Are you from /m/? I used to post there a few years ago when I was a teenager. I like Gundam a lot, Gquuux is actually really good so far. I went to see it in a theatre but none of my friends went with me :(
>>27539Honestly yeah when it comes to anime. I think the last one I watched was Bang Brave Bang Bravern, that was good fun. But there is nowhere near the budget as there used to be. Though tbh I don't think anime is doing well since the pandemic in general, and that's not just me lamenting over the good old days.
>>27589I don't think thats enough to consider it not dead. What's the isekai one called by the way? Being a light novel adaptation does not really fill me with confidence, I don't think I've ever enjoyed an isekai since Escaflowne either (and Escaflown is a stretch).
>>27770Damn this is like the my list when I was 15, though I thought Unicorn was the best show ever at that time. Anno is not involved with Gquuux that much by the way. The first few episodes are AU, if you're a fan of the original you'll like it.
>>27629>why even bother mentioning this detail or pretending its a genrea word's meaning in a living culture is more than its etymology.
in contemporary japanese otaku culture, "isekai" implies a shared collection of genre tropes beyond just the literal meaning of the name "other world".
(often overpowered self-insert mcs with a "cheat ability", dragonquest inspired videogame-style worlds with quests and and adventurers etc, and adherence to a certain pandery style of power fantasy writing)
for this same reason you would never call fortnite a "fighting game" even though it's literally a game about fighting because the genre name has come to mean something more specific than that.
>>27783looking at the list of seasonal anime it should be "I'm the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire"
>>27798oh,it's the one that bangs his robot maid.
this isn't a space opera, this is like a reconstruction of edgy isekai where god trolls the protag, but surprise ! he is so overpowered he dabs on him and even think god is cool and good since he keeps sending him overpowered ennemies he can loot bullshit items from. (the worst part is when god and him interact btw,it's super cringe, but at least it's somewhat original)
>>27599he sounds too much like a modern pretty boy is the problem in my book. it's not that you can't have pretty boys in Gundam but I would say part of Char's appeal is that gap between him being this golden locks sporting twink and having a little bit of bass in his voice. made him real
>>27537watched 0079 for the first time this year, really good old show, cleared the movies easy.
I like Zeta but i wish we could dial in on the fact we're in a terrorist group a little more (only half way through), because we spend a lot of time with the soap opera of it all which worked way better when our cast was mainly Civilians who were Entrapped and not active and on some level willing participants in active resistance.
Gquuuuuux looks great, but feels underwhelming. The cast look good, but I feel like this is the least I've learned about who I'm following of any Gundam I've seen (which isn't many, but there was a pattern of high information denisity that is I think is being broken because if you throw Char in the Gundam that's a shiny enough distraction). I would have preferred Witch from Mercury going to a standard 50 episodes over what Quacks is shaping up to be, but maybe I'll bite my tongue.
