I swear, shit like this makes the way usopp is written just so tragic. There is no reason for him to still be bitch made as early as alabasta. Like, the writers make this guy look so bad as if he somehow is too stupid and weak to throw a punch in 90% of scenes involving him just to pull up randomly with him doing this kind of work.

It's like how they still wrote Naruto to be the dumb awkward goofball even after experiencing the deaths of his beloved friends

It is genuinely hard to write steady progression for a character across 2000 chapters/1000 episodes without "concluding" their arc and thus making them less interesting.
Although that's just more reason why One Piece should be shorter.

I’m not that far into the series. Usopp does get multiple character arcs right? Those that deal with his parental abandonment issues, his overall weakness, his strengths with craftsmanship and weaponry, and his connection to shanks’ crew right?

Usopp does not change. He gets more useful I guess, as an actual sniper. But his cowardly personality is still the same.
This is good though. Some characters changed for worse (Zoro, Sanji, Chopper etc).

Somehow more useful but more cowardly… I’m not even going to ask how oda managed to pull off a blunder like that but whatever.

he has an arc in Water 7, they honestly gave him a lot of attention that fell off after the timeskip. There's a fan theory that the current arc the manga is in is specifically going to deliver something for him though i'm only current with the anime.

Since this is a one piece thread, I’m going to state just how underrated the foxy arc was from a narrative standpoint. Despite being a gag arc, it’s one of the best ways oda could’ve foreshadowed the level of difficulty later arcs would bring to the strawhats. If even luffy is pushed to a near draw in a one on one against foxy and narrowly wins by pirate luck, it makes a lot of sense for future villains to be far more menacing and within the range of being able to take out both luffy and the rest of the crew. You don’t get that from dudes like crocodile (actually that was a bad example), Arlong, and the other pushover villains pre foxy

Based. Davy Back is a great exercise in using light-hearted "filler" in a meaningful way. I also like the sudden introduction of one of the admirals right at the end of the desginated goof-off arc. I love when the story embraces that chaotic energy.

Yeah I got to that point. That fight with ice bro actually had me legitimately questioning if luffy was going to be killed—as in straight up obliterated—on the spot that early in the series even though I already heard vaguely about what goes on with his adventures after the encounter.

Why is garp white in the one piece live action? He is visibly tan and hindutva Indian looking.

>the writers
One Piece is written by one guy lol
