Gintama is based off the manga of the same name by Hideaki Sorachi. The original idea was a period that turned in a comedy action sci-fi drama series.

Compared to most big shonen anime Gintama has very little filler.

the only two anime that had made me laugh or at least chortle is azumanga daioh and kill me baby

It also cost 12¢ to create

I liked seitokai yakuindomo,the manga goes nowhere and is a boring slog that only does japanese stand up comedy for the entire lqtter half(AKA the mere mention of something being incorrect mentioned by someone else is somehow humor)
D-frag is also obsessed with tsukomis,but I dare you to try to predict anything that happens,that shit is a rollercoaster of nonsense.

Not sure if they count but the Crayon Shin-Chan dub is absolutely hilarious. I stg it gets funnier everytime I watch it

there has been a lot of action-comedies and romantic-comedies in the last ~15 years with the industry tirelessly trying to replicate konosuba. the problem with that type of media is that sooner or later it drops the comedy to focus on the action or romantic part because that's easier to streamline than comedy.

"pure" comedy anime and manga either die after a couple years when the author runs out of juice or become something like dril tweets but in japanese
