Hey, /leftypol, do you blame Ryuk or Light more for… y'know, ~130000 dead lumpens, a few dozens dead glowies&cops, a dozen dead porkies, one dead Anime George Bush (accidentally based?), couple of dead exploited orphans and a wave of worldwide fascisation?

Ryuk was irresponsible as a reaper but it was Light who was the reactionary lunatic. If Light wanted to use the Death Note for petty reasons or to kill the global bourgeoisie, Ryuk would've been entertained either way.
In any case, Death Note is Harry Potter tier slop for teenagers and manchildren, written by retarded liberals.

Asking because I was having an argument with a friend a couple of days ago about whenever or not Ryuk should be considered a villain. He was arguing that Ryuk is not a villain, while I was arguing that he is.

I was arguing that Ryuk literally started everything out of nothing but his own enterntainment and actually basically preyed on Light and ruined Light's life, on which my friend replied that Ryuk is a neutral semi-divine force that both does not and can not abide by the human morals and Light is not a victim in any real sense and should be primarily blamed himself for his own corruption. In the end, we had only agreed on that Ryuk can be seen as villain or not, depending on if one interprets him as malicious or ignorant of humans in the beginning of the story.

Anyone who thinks Ryuk isn't a villain is deranged. That's like saying it's a morally neutral act to give a loaded gun to a toddler.

I agree. Ryuk has worked with other humans in the past with that note. He would’ve known what would’ve happened if one went overboard and did nothing. Either he’s evil or he’s a dumbass but there’s no in between.

Honestly the idea that the [supernaturally/technologically, depending on the setting] beings cannot possibly be held to the same moral (god, I hate that word) standards as "mere" mortals smells lovecraftianism. And I am almost sure that Lovecraft had subconsciously birthed that idea to rationalise his own KKK-tier racism. You know, "Columbus' fleet was Ctulhu for the Taino people".

I would kill the worldwide bourgeoisie in a single day

Same. My BF says I'm an idiot because the root message of Death Note is 'don't use the Death Note' like that one tweet, but Light was just a reactionary narcissistic retard. You could actually make the world good with the Death Note (or at least a lot better).

I would make them confess on live tv all their heinous shit first, then make them apologize to the proletariat and the human race before making them commit suicide by guillotine

I feel like Light did not make good enough use of the ability to control people before their death. He could have controlled a few major political figures and trillionaires and mega popular celebrities and changed the world instead of trying to rule with fear.

Both Light and Ryuk were first motivated by boredom though. I'd say Ryuk's boredom is more understandable than Light's because the long lifespan and being isolated a lot. There is so many ways to look at it. You could view Light as better for at least having ambition and a vision for a better world you also could view Ryuk as an impartial presence just curious and playful.

The lumpens deserved it

I mean yes that was the message, but you don't have to agree with a story's message, especially if the story is stupid (and Death Note is quite stupid)

My friend and I once argued about the death note. I told him I'd do what light'd have done if I got the death note. He told me my type of thinking was "evil". I see his point, but some people, especially politicians have caused more harm to ordinary people than most could imagine. People like them shouldn't be on the top.

>>29597
Light was quite petty with the Death Note and did more than just kill obviously evil powerful people.

>>29597
>I told him I'd do what light'd have done if I got the death note.
i mean it depends what do you mean by that, but killing people who you know have been arrested is probably the stupidest way you could use the death note, anyone else would have put it to better use

Depending on how fast you can write, you could probably get rid of most of the worst offenders in under an hour.
