So I got sick and decided to use the time productively, and here it is. I apologise for the shameless self-promotion, but I thought it could spark some discussion.
https://cosmonautmag.com/2026/11/attempts-toward-a-critique-of-organization-deviation-and-revision-ism/In this essay I wrote for Cosmonaut Magazine, I attempted to redefine revisionism, moving away from how the term is often used in a somewhat dull and moralistic seeming way.
Using the theory of the young Lukács, I tried to grasp at the internal organisational dynamics that can cause a proletarian or communist organisation to function as a moment of production and reproduction of capitalist society. It is not meant to be a be-all-end-all explanation for the failure of historical socialist movements, but a rather specific lens to view an internal mechanism. A way to see how organisational dynamics, from mundane things like the division of labor and specialisation, can produce reified categories (e.g. theory and practice, and the forms they take) inside the very proletarian unity of theory and practice, praxis, that the organisation is supposed to be an expression of.
And further, how these categories then act as both the products and the drivers of broader political drift, and feed back to the organisation itself, without anyone ever necessarily acting in malice.
I'd be curious to know if people here might have any thoughts on it.
