The Helghast are the antagonists of the Killzone series. They are a race of mutated humans who were exiled to the planet Helghan, after a war with the ISA (Future Space NATO).
Although the creators used a mishmash of both Fascist and Soviet imagery for them, their ideology is never expanded beyond "militaristic authoritarianism". But many people always ended up sympathizing with them, and the official party is portrayed as a workers' party

They were as based as the fascist Italy. That is, they're cringe and their ideology is shitty ultranationalism. But not like human imperialism is epic. The last game in series really helped toning down the deadly antagonist aspect of the Helghast.
It made a lot of people feel nervous for finding themselves sympathizing towards a group which thus far had been presented in a largely monochromatic way.
