How come some nintendo fans got so defensive around people criticizing switch hardware but now they're fine with it now that Switch 2 is powerful? I saw it happen once online so I got the perception that they didn't like hearing about the Switch's relatively weak performance compared to PS5 and other consoles.

I might get a switch 2 just to have it. I might barely with it. Just to have it

I think some prolific Nintendo fans buy stocks in Nintendo. Now that it's not so damning compared to the rest of the industry they're easing up on defending it, like it's roughly on par and seems realistic it'll keep improving.

>>41112
the switch was only ever "underpowered" for gaymers wanting poorly optimized aaa slop like elden mid. disco elysium, celeste and Life Is Strange: Double Exposure ran just fine on it

>>41115
Well thing is some of those poorly optimized AAA's were Nintendo titles. Like the people that made the thing overestimated it's capabilities.

brand loyalty mental gymnastics, same reason playstation uyghas used to mock xbox live for being paid and then defended psn when it got paywalled

>>41115
Nah, man. The switch was tremendously weak even compared with low to mid-end smartphones that had been released around the same time. It used a greatly downclocked SoC (the tegra x1) which was already 3 years old when the switch released. It's a miracle that nintendo managed to make such nice looking games run at all on the switch.

>How come some nintendo fans got so defensive around people criticizing switch hardware
Cause they're both cultists and redditors.

tbh having weaker specs as a tradeoff for being a handheld hybrid isn't that crazy, but the switch was underpowered even for that

>not backwards compatible
Why? I held off on buying a Switch 1 and everything…

So why buy a switch 2? Bigger screen, a chat button, and the opportunity to buy the games I already own again? zzzzzz

>>41112
>How come some nintendo fans got so defensive around people criticizing switch hardware but now they're fine with it now that Switch 2 is powerful?
That's 'cause they'll buy Nintendo games no matter what. They value Nintendo games so much that they are willing to put up with actual anti-consumer practices. The only reason why Western AAA is so hated is because their brand of anti-consumer practices makes the games themselves worse, Nintendo's anti-consumer practices are outside of their actual games (pricing, DRM, digital-only distribution, copyright abuse, deliberately underpowered hardware) so they look more respectable. Western AAA fucks up at every stage: budget, development, distribution, marketting, treatment of workers, microtransactions, DRM, everything.

>>41112
nintards are the most brandcucked people ever. its harrowing

>>41139
It's selectively not backwards compatible so they can force you to buy the "upgrade" version if you want to play the game on switch 2. Other switch 1 games are playable.

Hardware power is for realism. Nintendo games almost always have a very stylized look, so…

>>41140
I second that zzzzzz. Back when the Switch 1 came out, I thought the Switch 2 would have a touchscreen with a changing surface, allowing you to feel menu grids with your fingers.

>>41256
But it's based Nippon so it's kosher.

>>41257
nintencucks will defend this

>>41280
>touchscreen with a changing surface, allowing you to feel menu grids with your fingers.

That'd be pretty neat. I'm not even really opposed to just the switch but more powerful but I don't see any reason to get it on launch, especially when probably two or three years from now there's gonna be a Switch 2 DX or some shit that improves on the launch version.

The cope over it not having an oled screen is pretty funny

>>41284
They will release an OLED version 6 months to a year later, bet on it.

>>41139
I assumed it was, the fuck
>>41282
indeed they will
>>41281
Nintards aren't like that in my experience. They're weirdly xenophobic towards non nintendo first party japanese games

>>41112
Nintendo's manchildren audience will put up with any anti-consumer practices as long as they keep producing the same Mario toddlerslop that got them fixated back with the n64/gamecube

File: 1744824273605.jpg (128.06 KB, 905x727, treatler.jpg)

I'm glad video games are getting more expensive.

>>41438
Maybe if you're a nintoddler, PS5 games regularly go for 20 euros or less

i ended up selling my switch 1 because the first party games were so fucking boring. i even downloaded yuzu and a totk iso to emulate them and never got aroud to playing it, i couldn't be assed to play an open world zelda for more than 30 minutes. now nintendo wants me to pay premium for their streamlined stylized stuff…

Ngl I'm gonna buy it launch day

>>41498
make an unboxing thread when you do

video related

I got it on launch. It feels pretty solid and premium. Battery seems like the weakest point.

>>42896

Keep us updated. I wanted to get a switch for a couple years now, but, depending on backwards compatibility & other issues, I might get a switch 2 in a year or so.

My switch 1 was collecting dust and i gave it to my sister who is also watching the switch 1 collect dust. Genuinely I see no point in having one and I think Nintendo may have fucked up jacking up the price of entry just to have some shitty ports, at this point the switch 2 is a worse steam deck with Nintendo games. And duskbloods I guess.

reportedly the sticks still drift lmao

>>41112

real talk, is the Switch 2 going to be the best way to make an economic portable Linux Machine to play mid-end games?

i really wanna play modded Daggerfall Unity on the go…

>>42898
For now it's a Mario kart machine. In 2026 it will be a great deal. I will say it gets more warm. On the level of PC handhelds.
>>42899
Switch 2 is more powerful than Steam Deck. Same battery life tho. Steam Deck 2 will be better.
>>42900
Nah it's clickbait.

I think I'll just wait until the next Zelda is out. Probably by then they'll have the Switch 2 DX or whatever the fuck

>>42915

Good idea.

File: 1749458017649.png (1.16 MB, 1221x1518, ClipboardImage.png)

>>42901
The unpatched switch1 i have can already run quake 1-3, so getting one of these for cheap is probably what you want. Unless there is going to be an oversight as big as the TegraRCM exploit in the switch2 launch model, i think they will retain pretty tight control over the platform for the foreseeable future.

>>42901
no. the switch is an overpriced computer, made deliberately difficult to jailbreak which means it'll be a long time before anybody will be able to run custom software on it, and nintendo has fully accepted the planned obsolescence philosophy of hardware manufacturing. the build quality of the first switch was awful. it's just not worth it. buy an actual mini computer instead or one of those retro handhelds which already run linux out of the box.

>>42922
>the switch is an overpriced computer
All of the new PC handhelds will be more expensive

Nintendo consoles are glorified party game machines and other local multiplayer games, most of those who will buy the switch 2 and the games will buy it by splitting the purchase between several friends/family members anyway (I think this is Nintendo's marketing strategy?) so I think their overpriced slop will sell well anyway.

>>42922
Hackers quickly were able to run unsigned code in user space so they are going faster progress in jailbreaking the Switch then the Vita when it launched. Speaking of which I don't get why there are Nintendo fan boys that are upset about hackers jailbreaking the Switch 2, like they don't want to be as cool as PSP and Vita users running homebrew and emulators on their devices.

File: 1749493940240.png (1.26 MB, 1080x593, ClipboardImage.png)

>>42922

>"the switch is an overpriced computer, made deliberately difficult to jailbreak"

<A random brazilian kid about to jailbreak it just to play CS 1.6:

>>42921

i can run Quake on my phone tho

i was checking the benchmark bcus i saw the Switch could almost run emulated PS3/Xbox 360 games at around 15 fps (7 at the lowest)

i actually tried running Daggerfall unity on my phone but it ran at actually 2fps

i figured a Switch 1 could probably run it at hopefully above 20 fps

buut idk, and i also wanna mod it so.

that's why i'm hoping for an affordable mid end portable linux machine

>>42926

this, ik Steam Deck is the obvious choice but i don't know if it'll get as cheap as a recomissioned Switch 2 at around the same time… what ya think? personally i'd probably pick the Steam Deck over it but also, the Nintendo Switch 2 should let me be able to play Nintendo games online if i ever find a game so good i wanna buy it… or use third party servers to play it whatever.

i'd be worried about "bricking" but iirc "bricking" only sets you back like a backup restore away, dunno if Nintendo has implemented a "nuke button" yet that fries the console itself (joke) but i think even if that happened half the time replacing that part should be a priority anyway so…

>>42929

pretty much this, a handheld that can become a multitool it's kinda the goal

legitimately confused at why SONY decided to give up on the handheld market with shittier PS4 tablet attachments

to give >>42922 credit;
the ideal handheld is just an affordable mid end computer that fits on a backpack.
problem is; nobody is making these.

>>42929
> Hackers quickly were able to run unsigned code
nothingburger, same thing happened with the switch uno and it took years between unsigned code PoCs and proper jailbreaks getting released, and that was only on non-up-to-date switches. nintendo is usually pretty fast at patching exploits. mind you, if you are banking on the switch 2 getting jailbroken, you wanna buy one today, and keep it on a box for like 2 years, but i'd just buy a handheld console instead and install bazzite on it or whatever instead of jumping through a million dumb hoops. nintendo games are not worth the hassle.

wait for the emulator and download that for $0 stupid consoomer

>>42938
It took weeks before anyone could run anything unsigned on the VITA, hackers were able to it in hours for the Switch 2. Also homebrew launchers tend to come before jailbreaks, where the launcher does the exploit with the homebrew you opened as the payload. This doesn't mean you can run encyrpted games but it means you can write and run homebrew code for the console.

>>42940
Vita emulation is still only about over 1/2 the game library with PS4 emulation still very low compatibility so jail breaking is better as a jailbroken Vita and PS4 can run everything and more.

>>42941
as i said, the same thing happened with the very first switch, same PoC and all. i insist, if you want to buy a switch 2 in hopes that you will transform it into a piracy/emulation machine, you should buy one right away, but it'll be a useless piece of shit because you won't be able to do anything online, which is now a requirement for all switch games, or risk your switch 2 getting patched with an unjailbreakable version. i'd rather save my money and avoid that piece of shit, but you do you.

>>42942
Switch 1 has been jailbroken and as with other jailbroken consoles that won't allow remote updates since they are not using stock firmware so it makes no sense for them to check with the manufactures for updates so that gets stripped out in the custom firmware.

On Sony's side their custom firmware is completely camouflaged so you have no problem on Sony's severs and even if Sony noticed they can only blacklist your machine ID as they have no remote access to custom firmware machines as that has been completely stripped.

>>42941
vita has no games, nintendo consoles always get emulators because they have games and people pay the devs to do it

>>42943
>Switch 1 has been jailbroken
you need to be on a specific FW version to do it, this is what i mean with buying one with a potentially exploitable FW TODAY and then KEEP IT IN A BOX collecting dust, because if Nintendo forces an OTA patch on you, which they absolutely can, then your shit isn't jailbreakable. AFAIK, the latest version of the official 3DS firmware isn't patcheable yet, nintendo is so fucking petty that they fixed the last available exploit before ending official support.

>>42944
Given Vita emulation dwarfs PS4 emulation and that Vita emulation caught up fast to PS3 emulation, I think it is more how long these emulators had to evolve.

>>41283
>two or three years from now there's gonna be a Switch 2 DX or some shit that improves on the launch version.
Yeah, probably another OLED version which will cost 650$ atleast, I am thinking of getting a OG OLED switch right now since it might drop in price, still have no fucking idea how they can charge 300$ plus for the OLED, shit is worth 200$ max

>>42947
Also 90€ for the pro controller like how tf?

>>42944
>vita has no games
youre tripping

>>42900
Already teardowns out on youtube and it looks exactly the same on the inside when it comes to the joycons kek

switch 2 is like dlc that costs more than the main game

>>42934
Playing Morrowind on mobile with OpenMW is godly even if its like 15-20fps. Only thing that set me back from it is the touchscreen input, and that is fixable with a cheap USB gamepad.

>>42927
>Nintendo consoles are glorified party game machines and other local multiplayer games, most of those who will buy the switch 2 and the games will buy it by splitting the purchase between several friends/family members anyway
Truthnuke, bought a Wii U one year after launch and we splitted the money, it was underpowered af but was a great party machine for the family although it did have some solid game like peakmin 3

>>42953
*Together with my brother

>>41112
They are just dumb console fanboys. Switch fanboys are particularly deranged for whatever reason.

>>42952

i think if the Switch 2 is actually considerably better than the 1st you could even play Skyrim on it

actually i'm almost sure you could play it on the Switch 1 with lowend mods because i used to run 400~ mods on Skyrim on a laptop with 2gb of ram and 1Ghz dual core AMD

at 500 mods i started having issues with scripts lagging.

but also since i played it for the first time it kinda became a immersion ritual for me

which now i need to play with my bf so i would stick to Daggerfall unity… mostly because i bet it's great for long trips since it's like half the game is also doing trips specially because i'll probably look for alternative fast travel mods so i can disable vanilla fast travel

>>42956
I think its a mix of sunk cost bias, elitism, nostalgia and brand loyalty.
Nintendo fans tend to basically be a horrendous cross between an Apple fanboy and a Disney adult.
>>42957
Its probably better, but I think Deck has better modding support since you can install usual PC mods and SKSE on it, with a bit of mucking around.

>>42958

oh i meant using a Linux app for it
i saw a guy emulating a switch inside a Linux emulator for the Switch 1 and getting 40-60fps which makes enough sense when you think about it

some of these tests ARE actually impressive even for the Switch 1 tho, which is why i was excited for the Switch 2

if the jailbreaks start rolling i want to think it could become the "new PSP" for near becoming a proper PDA with games

>>42960
Just buy one of the existing PC handhelds

File: 1749535763548.png (1.08 MB, 800x530, ClipboardImage.png)

>>42962

you don't understand, recallled consoles get really cheap once they hit the fayuca market (flea markets)

you can get one for half the actual price…
maybe PC handhelds could get cheaper but i don't really see those getting recalled price cheap.

specially if you find a defective or stolen one…

i actually got my Wii and my PS2 dirt cheap that way, both of them were *both* stolen and had broken pieces that i just had to weld replacements/hotwire.

>>42941
>hackers were able to it in hours for the Switch 2
Nah. There is no kernel exploit yet.

>>42956
I think the cringe economy is tilting towards Nintendo haters this time. Mostly cause of tiktok and twitter.

>>42972
We are talking unsigned code in userland that did take hackers longer in VITA and the Switch 2 exploit counts as. Without kernal exploit you can still develop a homebrew loader.

>>41438
I don't have to worry about that with Steam sales and GOG.

It's so good to have a gaming PC. And mine is from 2018 and it still runs games quite well in Linux.

I just realized why is the Steam Deck so expensive in my country
