what are some great old games that you think still feel good to play?!?!?
what are some great old games that you think are too janky for you to recommend?!?!!

Boiling point road to hell. Protip you have to add the gold edition content for the newest game version separately so you and your FARC guerrilla buddies can take over the government's town.

How do you do that? Should I also install any patches or mods? I have GOG version.

Super Metroid is janky as fuck. Most platformers still play great.

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad (release date 2011, only 14 years old) has some of the best gun handling of just about any FPS I've ever played and the cover system is intuitive. Still usually has at least one or two active servers in multiplayer.

Hidden and Dangerous 2 is a peak of tactical shooters, which unfortunately is a genre modern gaming industry seems to have abandoned.

I played Deus Ex and Thief 2 for the first time as an adult and found them way too janky to be enjoyed today

Quake III is still sex

There's a steam forum discussion entitled "Gold edition content" or the likes that has the links and instructions. There is a good discussion of the version shenanigans on that page. Boils down to the russian edition being more patched so you will have to add the language files of the international to the russian game files alongside installing the unofficial patch AND the gold edition content. I did this a couple months back so can't remember detailed instructions. If in doubt, read read read the forums. Will only take half a day at maximum incompetence to figure it all out.

>what are some great old games that you think still feel good to play?!?!?
Super Mario 3 & World
Zelda III: A Link to the Past & Link's Awakening
Metal Gear Solid 3
Katamari Damacy & We Love Katamari
Donkey Kong Country series
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
Megaman series
Kirby series
Castlevania: SotN
ICO
Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack
Ikaruga
Mr. Driller

Honorable mention to Super Monkey Ball: great and feels fun to control, but too frustrating after the first few stages

>what are some great old games that you think are too janky for you to recommend?!?!!

Zelda 1, 2 and Ocarina of Time
Metal Gear Solid 1, and 2 to an extent
Resident Evil series (prior RE4)
Castlevania series (prior Symphony of the Night)
Star Fox
Shadow of the Colossus
Tony Hawk series
Sly Raccoon series
Street Fighter II
Shenmue
Ducktails
Psychonauts
God Hand

>>43908
Jak and Daxter series, especially 2 and 3, 1 isn't that great probably best to play it last.

>>43924
It's way better than quake Champions that is for sure.

>>43938
>too janky
<tony hawk series
<psychonauts

das crazy. These games still feel pretty slick and intuitive. And I think that Castlevania 4 for the snes is also still pretty intuitive, with the 8 whip directions and all. Don't know if you've played this one

>>43939
I played a bit of the first jak n daxter and didn't have a very good time. But now you're saying that the other 2 are good, i think i'm gonna give it another shot. What i dislike the most about them is how depressing the color schemes look. Some ps2 games look so sad to me for some reason…

Halo CE still plays really, really well. Genuinely astonishing how much they got right.

Glad to see this game mentioned, I adore this game. I wish they'd go back to it and expand it even more.

Tekken 5 DR

Monster Hunter

>still good
MGS 2 and 3
>too jank
armored core 1

Recently played Torment again in over a decade and finally finished it: boy that game really is not as smart or poetic as it is made out to be.

>>43922
>Dude sex
Did you actually play it?

>>4393
>Shadow of the Colossus
>jank
lol
>God Hand
Damn, a Clover game takes getting used to? No way??

>>43943
Psychonauts has always been notorious for its dogshit controls.

>>43908
>what are some great old games that you think still feel good to play?!?!?
if we're talking only "janky" games
final fight, SMT 2, SNES fire emblem, shiren the wanderer, smash bros melee, vampire savior, MvC2, KoF 98, wizardry 8, spikeout, god hand, parodius, alien soldier, sunsoft batman
>too jank
can't think of anything tbh, i think the thing that comes closest is RPGs that are frankly just boring to play and give too little in return while asking for too much of your time, even if they have a fair chunk of redeeming qualities
like Morrowind, Persona 3, King's Field, Diablo, etc.

>>43943
>I played a bit of the first jak n daxter and didn't have a very good time.
Jak 2 is generally considered the best in the series it seems but I liked 3 the most, 1 is kind of childish and lacks narrative depth

>>43966
I should add that 3's vehicle gimmick gets tiring after awhile s

I think lots of 90s shooters hold up really well. Doom is a better shooter than lots of modern ones even though it is so primitive because the enemy feedback is very good, it feels satisfying to kill them, and your arsenal is fun. The Marathon games have a really engaging story unironically and I liked the atmosphere (helped I played 2 and infinity with the music mods). Unreal is a really fun movement game to play and I enjoyed the campaign. And then Half Life 1 obviously holds up pretty much perfectly today. I don't think Golden Eye holds up very well though. The controls make it pretty much unplayable, I never got past the first level.

>>43959
I finished DudesEx, and I enjoyed the story and options and upgrades a lot(!!!). But the shooting and movements, and the AI and animations and sound are hella janky

Arma 2

Overwatch

Thanks for clarifying.
