Emulation is easier. I still miss my PS2 tho :(

It's sad how much Hack and slash (the Stylish Action variety, not the modern Action-RPG rollslop), JRPGs, 3D beat 'em ups and survival horror the PS2 had in retrospect considering the half-dead state of those genres today.

You could see the little specs of rot appear in the PS2 era, with the rise of AAA titles with “cinematic” quality (whatever that’s supposed to mean) and huge budgets. The PS3/Xbox 360 era was when it was really gangrenous with the dominance of FPS slop, obsession with multiplayer experiences, and brith of in game purchases, constant franchise spam. Now console gaming is like a rotting zombie. It’s putrid filthy appeals only to low brow hogs who keep eating from the shit pile because there’s nothing else they know.

I thought gaming went to shit in the middle 2000s when it all became about the story and 3D graphics. No one cared about the story previously but now people claimed this was the POINT of gaming. I blame FF7. For some reason everyone loved that dogshit. And every 2D -> 3D graphic transition looks AWFUL. StarCraft 1 has more style than 2, same with Diablo, Mario, Metroid, whatever.

And there's just so much bloat in actually playing it. You wanna play A Link to the Past or Mario World, boom you're in. Wanna play a 3D Zelda or Mario, here's 15 minutes of cinematics and forced tutorials.
