Rest in Peace !!
Tomonobu Itagaki, the legendary creator of the Dead or Alive series, and creative mind behind the 2004 version of Ninja Gaiden, has passed away at the age of 58.
The news was shared on his personal Facebook page, and independently confirmed by members of the development community. The cause of death was not given.
The elegaic Facebook post was written by Itagaki to be shared in the event of his death. An English translation was later shared by his compatriot and rival Katsuhiro Harada:
Words I Leave Behind
The flame of my life is finally about to go out.
If this message has been posted, it means that the time has come. I am no longer in this world.
(This final post has been entrusted to someone dear to me.)
My life was a series of battles. And I kept on winning.
I know I caused trouble for many along the way.
But I followed my convictions and fought to the very end.
I have no regrets.
Only one thing weighs on me — I’m deeply sorry to all my fans that I couldn’t bring you a new work. I truly am.
That’s just how it is.
So it goes.
Banobu Itagaki
Rip
how are they gonna close that casket
>>44569>Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach VolleyballI prefer the obscure spinoff Dead or Alive.
what a shame
Thank you for the boobies Itagaki-sempai, the release of DoA: Xtreme Beach Volley was the definitive moment that turned the little boy I was into a man. We will never forget these game magazine pictures. Rest in Beach.
When i was a dumb zoomoid teen i bought an xbox one and had gamepass (was called gold back then) for a few months. Years later i bought gamepass for one month to get some titles to play with guests or i was too lazy to pirate on there, before disabling internet to perpetually retain membership (trick is you have to launch a game once to play offline later, except for some titles like oxenfree that just refuse to run despite only minor online functionality).
Anyways i got various gamepass title (including every ninja gaiden title, GRIS and a cute spider brawler) and was looking at the f2p versions of DOA 5 and 6 respectively. 5 was really the only one you could buy in full without always-online bullshit and buying the "full game" gives you everything except DLC costumes, that are for gooners anyway. And while i don't play many fighters, i enjoyed it a lot. Positioning is varied and some combos are easy to trigger, but feel less cheesy than in soul calibur 6 (where some attacks have a lot more range tbf). Shame the few friends i have don't want to play fighting games…
When I was little my older cousin (older by decades) gave me a modded xbox with a stack of like 200 burned game discs with tha names written in sharpie on em.
One of them was dead or alive beach volley ball with the nude mod preinstalled. Anyways rest in peace to a king.
