What they don't seem to realize is that even if Halo never existed people still wouldn't play arena shooters, the only reason games like Quake were popular for a time is because of the novelty and fad of them being something new that hadn't been done before which was namely, an actual working online game that actually felt somewhat ok to play. Once more easier games came out it didn't matter if it was going to be another shooter or not, hardcore arena shooters were always on burrowed time.
