So i earn the minimum wage and i cant afford most game because they usually cost around 24-27% of the money i earn, i usually buy stuff on sale because i like to 100% games on steam (even tho ppl say its worthless) i kinda wanted to play death stranding 2 but then again it costs around 25% of my wage that could be going to important things. i'm torn between spending this money on a game or just saving for basic needs. is pirating games on this scenario the best course of action?

  • Don't play AAA games unless you are a streamer.
    • The reason AAA games are expensive is because they know the majority of people interested will just watch a streamer play it, so the streamer is effectively buying the same for several users.
  • Focus on indie games that are either sandboxes (infinite playtime potential) or have high skill ceilings (speedrunner games like Celeste or Bombun)

If you want to pirate you can, but it sounds like your issue is you're buying AAA games as someone that doesn't monetize playing said games.

YES

>So i earn the minimum wage and i cant afford most game because they usually cost around 24-27% of the money i earn,
I would pirate everything even if I was a billionaire (maybe I would pay for games I really enjoyed).
>i usually buy stuff on sale because i like to 100% games on steam (even tho ppl say its worthless)
You really don't own your games when you buy them on Steam and they can always remove your access to them. Also, you always need to run the resource-hog steam (its interface is a webapp btw). So why wouls you buy them on Steam?
> is pirating games on this scenario the best course of action?
It always is

I only buy games from indie or solo devs after pirating and completing them and finding them better than a 7/10, my steam library has 400+ games following this idea.

i only buy games i'm too lazy to pirate on my gpdwin, gaben has me by the balls

yes

i only pirate indie games and buy all AAA games i play

>Should i just be pirating
Always yes, pirate everything you can. Regardless of your income.

It's not the same

Bro if a game costs 25% of your wage of fucking course you should pirate.

If the corporation behind it treats the employees like shit, then pirate it. If it's one guy making a living off their house mortgage, then buy it. Ezzy.

There is never anything ethically wrong with pirating a game for any reason. If you need to pirate because you can't afford it, that's okay. If you want to pirate even though you can afford it, there's nothing wrong with that, either.

Piracy is never wrong, but supporting independent devs is always right, so just do that if and when it becomes feasible for you.

I was a hardcore pirate who's mostly turned to buying games, but piracy is one of the best things about modern technology. I still pirate most of my books and movies, but like Gabe Newell said, piracy is a service issue, so I also have found it more convenient to buy things from Steam and GOG on sale most of the time at this point.

Yeah, nothing wrong with pirating unless you really wanna support the devs, the only downside is if you wanna do co-op or multiplayer, usually cracked games fuck that up.

Fuck them, pirate the hell out of the game. I mean, i buy stuff out of Steam. But if it was 24-27% of my salary, i would think "y'know, these fuckers want to rob the shit out of me". By the way, i'm sorry your salary is that low, you're not even living anymore, you're surviving or basically paying to breathe.

I have not paid for a singleplayer game in years

Yes but I played pirated Death Stranding 2 after playing a legit version of the first one and I stopped after the prologue because I realized the connection with other players was important to me narratively and not just a gimmick, so I'll wait until a hard discount for this particular game. But piracy is the way.

First of all, pirate all you want. I pirated games my entire childhood, and now that I have a job and a disposable income, I'm filling in my catalogue with games I loved as a little boy.

Second of all, there are tons of good games you can get for very, very cheap. Check out someplace like https://www.cheapshark.com/

Looking at it at the moment of writing, I can see you can get Metro 2033 for 99 cents, Dishonored for $1.99, Homeworld for $3.49, Frostpunk for 3 bucks. These are all amazing games available at a 90% discount. Have you played literally every good game of yesteryear? I doubt it.

But you don't have to do that. You can just pirate, it's literally fine.
