voice acting has a piece of acting in them to find the voice of a character.
the best voice actors have to prep and get in the correct mental space to make a good character voice.
there is also the big ass problem that are the guest star voice actors which are almolst always dogshit.

I listened to his voicelines, and it is ok, non-remarkable? I cant hear anything that would make him stand out.

No shit? A lot of american VAs are self-taught people who did voicework in shit like abridged series and newgrounds animations. It's not taken seriously like in japan where IIRC they have schools specifically for VAing alone.

FfXII had theater actors and it's VA is peak.

In Japan doing enthusiasm is seen as good customer service due to effort required, whereas in west forced enthusiasm is seen as bad. It's not gooder or worser it's just different. Both have an internal logic.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the voice acting in Soulsborne games? Like yeah most characters have like 10 lines max but they're all perfectly acted like if it was a Shakespeare play.
