There has been a deluge of games that seem to be what /v/ would call "Woke" that underperform or whatever but there always seems to be something that is woke that does well. I feel like this is just a good way to be stuck in a perpetual samsara where you get excited and deflated over shit that fails and yet I think that it doesn't really even matter that much in the end? Recent AtlasIntel polling has zoomers and even men in general vooting for democrats and in spite of the general haughty attitude from Marxist-Leninists and Anarchists, this does mean that they aren't entirely turned off by arbitrarily "woke" things, because there is some ugly ass people in subnautica 2 and shit but that doesn't seem to have moved the needle much at all in practical politics. Like, I unironically don't even get what the end-game is from anti-woke gamers who want every single woke game to flop from AAA to indie.

I'm leftist but I kinda agree with the anti-woke thing, not for political reasons but for aesthetic and entertainment reasons. A lot of art and design trends in gaming have definitely been influenced by wokism in recent years, like women and men being made deliberately ugly, safe-edginess and safe-horniness cringe replacing real horny and edgy stuff etc.

I think the problem with woke is that its the result of sophomoric efforts at creating narratives and aesthetics by well-meaning people that comes off as forced, unfunny, ugly and insincere. As a counterpoint, the Metal Gear Solid series is super-woke AND its actually made by talented people so it well-liked. It's really the execution that matters here.

Source? Every time i've read this, it had something to do with not every female character being a 20 something conventionally attractive woman. Most wokenoticers unironically want every one of them to be Quiet from MGS.

From what i remember about the discourse, the definition varies from encouraging attraction towards people not considered conventionally attractive, to literal adult woman fetish shit. Although i admit Esoteric Ebb was pretty cringe in that regard, it's not a dating sandbox. Most narrative games have you playing as a character at the end of the day.

the only real exemple I know is the woman in the Fable trailer/gameplay reveal,because she's based on a real life actress that has then been made uglier,it's the only one I know outside of insider info that are rumors at best

I found a blog posts by the devs, where they said they wanted to emulate gameboy color graphics and i still think the comparison is equally unfavourable. Every screenshot i've seen so far is garish and overly busy compared to the austere yet artful elegance of the old zelda games.

Closest i can see in style is maybe LoZ 2, which works, because the closer side-view makes it so multiple detailed tiles constitute the texture of an object. Top-down makes it, so most in-game objects are tile-sized or smaller blobs of pixel vomit your eyes have a hard time parsing.

Just don't say you expect a certain number of copies within a certain timespan. You're literally selling copies, you'll make your money back if that's the issue.

apparently the game cost $5m to make. which seems kind of crazy for what it looks like. the studio is in LA though so most of that money just went to landlords presumably

Like buying a game because you think it's a good price and want to play it, okay, even saying 'it's still in early access right now but it's made by a single indie developer so I want to help them pay the bills' but what is up with being like 'I want the devs to have a little walking around money' when you're not even planning on playing it or buying 4 copies? that just feels deranged and borderline parasocial, they're not your friends. If you want to be charitable then donate some money to buy fucking mosquito nets.

Piracy is normal enough that buyingia game is basically just donating so the devs can keep making stuff, with the actual paywall aspect being largely vestigial.
