>Radio drama (or audio drama, audio play, radio play, radio theatre, or audio theatre) is a dramatized, purely acoustic performance. With no visual component, radio drama depends on dialogue, music and sound effects to help the listener imagine the characters and story: "It is auditory in the physical dimension but equally powerful as a visual force in the psychological dimension." Radio drama includes plays specifically written for radio, docudrama, dramatized works of fiction, as well as plays originally written for the theatre, including musical theatre, and opera.

Discuss and post audio dramas

Radio dramas are called audio dramas now more commonly because they obviously don't just go over the radio any more and are more common on podcast platforms.

One thing I've been listening to, and cant recommend highly enough, is "The White Vault", which lasted 5 seasons. If you're into horror, this is a fully casted/acted horror audio/radio drama.

I easily give this a 4/5 or even a 4.5 out of 5 for the first two seasons. The ONLY reason its not a 5/5 is because, without giving away spoilers there are 1-2 "plot contrivances" in the first two seasons and the end of season 4 where characters just make decisions for no other reason than to move the story along, but they kind of fix it via retcon later.

This series has given me the audio-drama bug and I hope it does for you too.

happy listening

listening to another 'fool and scholar' productions audio drama, seems good so far:

called 'Don't Mind: Cruxmont'. Mystery type show

Not sure how difficult they are to find but the RD Wingfield series of radio dramas are absolutely fantastic.

Mid to late 20th century, they are self contained stories of crime with a distinct Britishness normally featuring a great twist in the tale.

Just avoid the Touch of Frost audiobooks completely

They just call these 'podcasts' now.

I've yet to hear a modern audio drama that I like. They go over the top with sound effects and sometimes music, like they're trying to make it sound the same as a visual action movie.
Not everything works as an audio drama. Some stories are better just read by one person with nothing else added. I suppose if you're a die hard fan of Doctor Who or Star Wars and just can't get enough of something you can find pleasure in them, but I grew up on old time radio and not much that's produced outside the BBC is ever very good. It's too bad that it's more enthusiastic fans rather than professionals putting anything out. When it had the importance it did before television existed there was an entire creative industry built around it. The technology now allows anyone to do it, but the polish and craftsmanship and great writing will never be there, at least not all at the same time.
I'm stoned and bitching. I'm actually glad people are making stuff and that audio has an audience. I'm just a snob and none of it is ever good enough for me.

Gunsmoke, Escape, and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar are some of my favorites.

No. You have no clue what you're posting about. You aren't paying attention.

fiction podcasts, yes.

Apparently the Danger 5 audioplays seem pretty well liked, if obscure.

Haven't listened because fuck amazon. I'd rather just buy it direct, honestly.

I like magnus archives and it’s spinoff/sequel magnus protocol, but I kind of wish it stayed as an episodic horror anthology. I recommend checking it out, it’s made by well meaning libs, so nothing weird or racist, but it can be a bit annoying/obnoxious when trying to be political due to author being a left liberal.
