That's not really a bad representation, it's just open racism from 80s Hollywood. What I was asking for is portrayal of minorities that is inteneded and adverticied as sympathetic and progressive, but largely or completely fails at it when you actually "read the text".

You won't believe it if you haven't heard of this series before, but Dragon Age was originally dark fantasy.

The Qunari, the two arguing in that clip, were first introduced as this ultra-conservative religious group from foreign lands. The second game retconned them into Tiefling Klingons, the third game retconned them again as being way more tolerant and accepting, then this game goes "fuck the Qun" anyway for having any customs at all I guess.

Bioware has been fucking Dragon Age for a while now, but this latest game really takes the cake.

It's a shame because they were one of the interesting things to come out of the game. It's been a while since I played, but they were sort of religious communists weren't they? Lile I thought the idea was that everyone had a religiously dictated place in society, so on one hand you have guaranteed social welfare as long as you stay where you belong, but on the other there's no real means of social advancement or alternatives outside of your prescribed role. I kind of vaguely remember this causing friction between a qun party member and female members of your party since in their society women were supposed to be artists, scholars, and crafters and shit like that so the big qun was triggered.

But then the meme of them being "muslim coded" took off and they couldn't be a flawed society any more.

I don't know if this counts, but the entirety of Dustborn felt like a parody of a "left-wing game" made by a reactionary.
