am i the only one who has completely strayed away from fandoms, alienating myself from them, voiding all interactions with them whenever i try to talk about my interests? i don’t mind sharing or talking to someone who has the same interests as me but i tend to avoid fandoms at all costs
like im an artist myself (art i posted isn’t by me tho obv and instead by the amazing SebastianvonBuchwald) and like to be consistent with what i enjoy, instead of switching up interests, and going from one popular thing to the another, or “trend hopping” as others would put it. but as of recently i decided to take a break from the furry community due to the problems it faces. one of it being how racism is rampant in the fandom
of course i decided to leave some other fandoms too, such as a roblox game called “forsaken”, because its banning people over using the term “pro ship”, which means “ship and let ship” and also “anti harassment”, and dark fiction/dark ship which means it explores darker themes whether it be sexual or not. and anti shipper is some who is against those kind of things. even though i was in fandoms long enough to witness this kind of stuff and discourse idk what is everyone’s stance on them now since its been nearly a decade already (didn’t start seeing them around until like 2020-2021 tho)
i also think it’s annoying how there’s digital artists(?????) that rely too much on moralism. i know this is the loud minority who are the loudest about “muh moralism in art” when it comes to drawings that supposed to be a form of freedom of expression and not ones morals are the loudest on big social medias such as twitter/x, instagram, and tik tok. but i think it’s really annoying on how this suddenly blew up in fan artists circles too. gotta draw a woman married to a man and living a traditional lifestyle or else i’ll be getting cancelled for drawing hot giant furry woman x her human bf that’s the average human height or else i’ll be cancelled over drawings /s
i can’t forget about how prominent ageism is in fandom spaces. it used to be fun and lively but now it’s filled with adults who suffer from nostalgic doomerism gatekeeping fandoms from minors because of “puriteens” or whatever for not being comfortable seeing fictional underaged characters being in certain weird situations (which is okay and valid actually). despite the same ageists claiming to be against christofascism
mfw the word “puriteen” is used by christian fundamentalists who are made teens aren’t having enough sex after prohibiting teens aka “young adults” from having sexual contact or looking at porn despite them having hormones which lead to sexual frustration. i was one of them. something i realized is that the word is being used on a similar level as “woke” as well by presumably white ‘feminist’ liberals in fandom spaces as well
and back then when i was a kid myself, the rise of ageism in fandom spaces made me unsafe and upset, and even as an adult. im still scared of how common ageism has become over time in the big 2020s decade as well. the gentrification of fandoms and art becoming a commodity as well as tumblr fandom discourse or drama being rampant across bigger platforms/social medias as well made everything feel so dull. like a swallow husk of what it once was—fun, creativity, fandoms having a diverse culture, etc before capitalism, fascism and annoying yt ppl (or white supremacy i dunno im tired) took over and now it became a hive mind of such whiteness
over time i grew resentful towards fandom spaces and decided to take my leave afterwards. am i the only one who did this and also felt resentful towards them? or is it just me and i should probably take a break from the internet from now? im definitely taking a “break” from social media (aka i wont be using any of them except for tumblr, bluesky, telegrams, and perhaps tik tok, deviant art, and mastodon at times just to post art ofc) which is a good start but im planning to take a major internet break afterwards for like a couple months and come back to see if anything has changed in that regard
