This perception is key to paralyzing organizers and creating an air of tension. It's an open secret that Israel uses bots to promote its propaganda and make its regime—and genocide—seem normal. With the fundraiser for the subhuman scum who murdered Renee reaching half a million, I would imagine most of those donations are botted, especially when the largest donor is a billionaire.
It's all propaganda, and it's designed to demoralize you. It's effective because there is no community in America that's not rooted in consuming something. No third spaces, no neutral gathering spaces, nowhere to just exist with people unless you spend money—and more and more people are being priced out. So they spend their time online, isolated, and are shown all this propaganda to make them believe that the majority of those around them, whom they are alienated from, are supporters of murder, lack empathy, etc. Then the person who has no community and is alienated thinks, "Why bother? Everyone is awful anyway. There's nothing that can be done."
For example: When I moved to Florida, I was expecting most people I met to be fascist-oriented. And of course I have met actual Nazis here. But the majority of people I've met? Kind, empathetic people who do not support the regime and are simply doing their best. I would imagine most people in America are the same.
This is one of the issues with "tailism"—this idea that we as revolutionaries, or progressives, or whatever, should look at the opinions of the voting population and apply them as strategy. Sixty percent or more of the country doesn't vote, and the government—state, local, federal—does not exist to represent the people. It's always been interesting to me how supposed leftists will acknowledge that the government here is a bourgeois dictatorship, offering no legitimate representation and functioning effectively as a neocolony, yet also turn around and cite voter polls as to why certain things are "unacceptable lines," e.g., abolishing the police or abolishing ICE. Because the median voter doesn't support these things, neither can we.
Revolutionaries should be ahead of the most progressive elements of the working class, advocating for even more progressive policies and advanced tactics.
Imagine if the abolitionists of the past, those who fought against chattel slavery, operated in the same way as the abolitionists of today do. I can assure you that destroying the institution of race-based slavery in the U.S. was not popular with the median voter. Why would you think abolishing wage slavery would be any different? Imagine sitting down with Frederick Douglass and telling him, "Look, we took a poll, and most voters don't support abolition. Maybe we can reform slavery?"
Also, consider the farce of the "median voter" in relation to chattel slavery. Voting was essentially restricted to land-owning white men—not the people who were actively enslaved, who wouldn't factor into the polling. Then take that logic and apply it today. The most exploited of the proletariat are the ones who almost certainly do not vote in this system, and thus wouldn't appear in the polling either. Felons can't vote, and America has the largest prison population on the planet, using these prisoners as slave labor for companies like Target and McDonald's—just to name one group that would never be factored into the polling.

Typically in an exchange, an oil refiner borrows SPR crude oil for a short time period, due to events such as hurricanes or temporary supply disruptions, and later replaces it in full, along with a premium of an additional quantity of oil.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright is looking to secure oil and critical minerals deals with Venezuela in the next few weeks ahead of a trip to Caracas, he said in a Friday interview with Axios.

Between the lines: President Trump has been clear about his goals of taking de facto control of Venezuela's oil production while hopes of democracy and elections have been an afterthought.
The president this week met with and praised Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, but stopped short of backing her.

"The counterparts in Venezuela are thrilled by this," Wright said.

Behind the scenes: Trump would only meet privately with opposition leader Machado on Thursday at the White House so as not to send the wrong signal to the acting president in Caracas, administration sources say.
Machado's meeting was arranged amid a lobbying campaign from Venezuelan exiles and her friend, Fox host Rachel Campos-Duffy, the wife of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, White House sources said.
What's next: Rodríguez has announced plans to reform the country's hydrocarbons law to allow for more U.S. investment.
"Venezuela took 200 deportations today in a flight and we're hoping for two to three flights like that a week," said a White House adviser involved in the negotiations with Caracas.
"Between the deportation flights into the country and the oil and mineral flows out that Wright is working on, we're facing an entirely new dynamic in the Western Hemisphere," the adviser said.

Jan 16 (Reuters) - OpenAI said it would start showing ads in ChatGPT to some U.S. users, ramping up efforts to generate revenue from the AI chatbot to fund the high costs of developing the technology.
The ads will be tested with users on the company's free tier and the lower-priced Go plan that it is now expanding globally, OpenAI said on Friday. They will show up in the coming weeks and will be separate from the answers generated by ChatGPT.

Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro, a stalwart leftist, has promised to achieve peace settlements with armed groups that have kept the country in a near-constant state of conflict for more than half a century.
But now Mr. Petro is threatening military action, alongside Venezuela, against the largest of those groups, the National Liberation Army, or ELN, a one-time revolutionary guerrilla group that experts say has become a major cocaine trafficker with a deep foothold in Venezuela.
“If the ELN does not join the peace process by leaving Venezuela, there will be joint military actions with Venezuela,” Mr. Petro wrote on X on Monday.
This week, the ELN proposed a nationwide “agreement” with the government, an offer Mr. Petro rebuffed. “An agreement was offered, and the ELN destroyed it with blood and fire,” he wrote on X.
He called instead for ELN fighters in Venezuela to disarm, return to Colombia, and begin a process to cede territory and reintegrate into society — or face military action.
“The order I gave was a total offensive against the ELN in Catatumbo,” Mr. Petro said in an interview with The Times.
After Mr. Maduro’s capture, Mr. Petro also announced the deployment of 30,000 troops to his country’s 1,300-mile border with Venezuela. “The first order I gave was not to defend Venezuela or anything like that,” he said, alluding to claims he was in league with Mr. Maduro. Instead, Mr. Petro said, he ordered ELN fighters to “disarm and re-enter Colombia.

He did not wallow in confusion; he wrote Materialism and Empirio-criticism. He demonstrated that when disorganization is at its highest, it is necessary to return to rudimentary, elementary Marxism. This allows us to clear away the "dead tumors" of the past and position ourselves flexibly for the future.
I urge you all to return to the classics. We need to re-arm ourselves with these fundamentals for the upcoming battle against bourgeois mystification. When the pleasant veneer of civil society is finally torn down, we must be ready with organization.
