Their position on presidential elections and the democratic party stems directly from the advice given to them by governing communist parties in other countries. Ever since the 30s they've been far too deferential to foreign communist governments when it came to their domestic line. Obviously they carry their own responsibility for this, they could of course just reject this advice. However I'm just pointing out that this is a policy borne out of excessive deference rather than chauvinism.
